Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (4-4-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) edged No. 9 the University of St. Thomas (Minn., 5-3-0), 1-0, on Sunday, Sept. 21 to close out the eighth-annual Carthage "Battle on the Border" at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. 

The Red Men opened tournament play on Friday night, Sept. 19 with a 3-0 win over Wartburg College (4-2-1).  The Knights were ranked fourth in the Sept. 16 National Soccer Coaches Association of America North Region poll.  On Saturday night, Sept. 20, Wartburg (5-2-1) defeated St. Thomas (Minn., 5-2-0) by a 4-1 margin.
 
In Sunday's win over the Tommies, Carthage broke through after 81 minutes of scoreless play with a goal at 81:31 by Ryan Crane (Sr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson), assisted by both Michael Dombrowski and Arnoldo Reyes.  The Red Men had a 12-7 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.  Carthage goalkeeper Nick Huftalin (Sr., Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) collected two saves.
 
"I am proud of the guys for their effort this weekend, especially in a high-end tournament like this with regionally-ranked teams.  We just don't believe in playing games that don't matter, and as a result. it makes us stronger.  We bent somewhat in the last five minutes, which is expected, being up a goal.  Every guy and every coach seems to be picking each other up.  Today is was Ryan Crane and Nick Huftalin, tomorrow it will be somebody else." 

The Red Men travel to Whitewater, Wis., on Wednesday, Sept. 24 to play Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-2-1) in a 7 p.m. game at the Fiskum Soccer Field.
