Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (3-4-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened play at the Carthage "Battle on the Border" on Friday night, Sept. 19 with a 3-0 win over Wartburg College (4-2-1) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Knights were ranked fourth in the Sept. 16 National Soccer Coaches Association of America North Region poll.
Carthage scored twice in the first half.
Alexander Marquis (Sr., Caracas, Venezuela) scored 26 seconds into the game, assisted by both
Nicolas Vogel and
Atli Einarsson.
Filip Dyminski (Sr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Woodstock-Marian Central Catholic) scored, unassisted, at 7:57 to make it 2-0. The Red Men made it a 3-0 contest at 14:01 second period on a goal by
Michael Dombrowski (Sr., Johnsburg, Ill.), assisted by
Arnoldo Reyes. Carthage out-shot Wartburg, 13-8, and had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. Red Men goalkeeper
Nick Huftalin (Sr., Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) collected five saves.
"We have had some really interesting battles with Wartburg over the years," said Carthage coach
Steve Domin, "and there is a reason why they are consistently in the NCAA tournament and top-25. Getting a quick goal helped us find a rhythm, and goalkeeper
Nick Huftalin had a special game."
Wartburg takes on No. 9 the University of St. Thomas (Minn., 5-1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., with Carthage playing St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.
