The Carthage women's basketball team (4-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) nipped Coe College (3-3), 59-58, on Friday, Dec. 5 at the Moray Eby Fieldhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A three-pointer at the 19:18 mark, by Aleena Hobbs, gave the Kohawks the lead to open. The Lady Reds pulled within one point, 14-13, at the 9:38 mark with a layup by
Taylor Boardman (Jr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North), however, Coe got on a run and expanded their lead over Carthage to 26-15 with a three from Mickey Hansche. Coe took leads of 17-13, 26-15, and then finally 30-21 over Carthage in the first-half.

The Lady Reds closed the gap between the Kohawks and tied the score up at 41-41, when
Kasey Kleiner (Sr., South Milwaukee, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) got on a run with a layup at the 12:30 mark, followed by two threes at 11:47 and 11:08 marks. The score remained close from there, with Coe maintaining leads of 43-41, 46-45, and 51-49. However, Carthage battled back tying the score at 53-53, with a layup by
Erin Quinn (Sr., Island Lake, Ill./Mundelein-Carmel Catholic) at the 3:53 mark. The Lady Reds got on a run and expanded their lead to 57-53, with a jumper by
Erin Thomas (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) at the 2:06 mark. The Kohawks kept it interesting and pulled ahead 58-57, at the 19-second mark, after
Allison Riley (Sr., Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy) fouled Coe's Megan Hayes to send her to the line. Carthage gained possession back and took a timeout to regroup with five seconds left in the game.
Alexis Hahn (Jr., Itasca, Ill./Roselle-Lake Park) sealed a Lady Reds victory with a jumper at the four-second mark, putting Carthage up, 59-58.

The Lady Reds shot 46% (24-52), including five-of-18 three-pointers, while the Kohawks shot 53% (20-38), with five-of-15 from the three-point range. Carthage connected six-of-11 from the free-throw line, while Coe made 13-of-18. The Kohawks out-rebounded the Lady Reds by a 32-20 margin, but Carthage had only 10 turnovers compared to Coe's 23.

Kleiner led the Lady Reds with 18 points on 11-of-20 field goals, including four-of-eight from the three-point range. Hahn had 14 points on six-of-12 shooting and four rebounds for Carthage, while teammate Boardman had 10 points and seven rebounds. Megan Hayes led Coe with 13 points and five rebounds.

Carthage will travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on Clarke University (7-5) on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. at the Kehl Center.
