The Carthage College women's volleyball team (23-2, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked 14th in the Oct. 21 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, defeated Augustana College (Ill.,18-8, 2-3 CCIW), 3-1, on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage's winning set scores over the Vikings were 25-18, 20-25, 25-8, and 25-18. The Lady Reds continue to hold their first-place position in the league.
Carthage came out strong in the first set, with
Megan Fallert (Fr., Maplewood, Minn./Roseville-Concordia Academy) opening the match with a kill. The Lady Reds remained dominant throughout the entire first set, only allowing the Vikings to ever come within two points. In the second set, the Lady Reds again started off strong, controlling the pace for much of the set, until Augustana got on a run and tied it up at 18-18. The Vikings continued to battle back and took the set, 25-20. The Lady Reds raised their energy in the third set, with Fallert opening with a block. Carthage remained in control throughout the entire set, dominating with a 10-point lead at 16-6, and then finishing out the set 25-8. In the fourth set, the Lady Reds kept their momentum going, again opening up with a 10-point lead at 15-5. The Lady Reds finished the game out strong with,

Rachel Fields (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) led the Lady Reds with 15 kills, aided by teammate
Bria Hailey (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg), who had 10 kills and a .435 attack percentage.
Hannah Cahoon (Sr., Watertown, Wis./Watertown) collected 21 digs and
Karen Chin (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) had 41 assists.
On Friday-Saturday, Oct. 24-25, Carthage travels to Oshkosh, Wis., for the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational at the Kolf Sports Center. The Lady Reds face Loras College at 5:30 p.m. and No. 27 Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by Saturday matches against No. 36 Wartburg College at 10 a.m. and Clarke College at Noon.
