Box Score The Carthage College women's soccer team (6-8-0, 1-2-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) hung with CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 12-1-1, 3-0-0 CCIW) for 77 minutes on Wednesday, Oct. 15 before losing a 2-1 decision at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Thunder were ranked sixth in the October 14 National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III poll and second in the Central Region rankings.
Wheaton took a 1-0 lead at 3:25 on a goal by Sarah Frey, her ninth of the year, and the Thunder had two more shots at 4:55 and 5:26 before Carthage's
Jessica Socha (Sr., Crestwood, Ill./Chicago-Marist) tied the game with a goal at 8:50, her seventh of the season and assisted by
Alexis Fahlbeck. That's the way it stayed for the next 68 minutes until the Thunder's Ally Witt scored at 77:16, also her ninth of the year and assisted by Kendall Eitreim, to put Wheaton up, 2-1. The Thunder had a 20-6 advantage in shots and a 7-1 margin in corner kicks.
Carthage travels to Rock Island, Ill., on Saturday, Oct. 18 to take on conference-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 8-3-2, 1-1-0 CCIW) in a 1 p.m. game at Thorsen-Lucken Field.
