Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (11-7, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 24th in the Sept. 24 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 27-28 Wheaton College (Ill.) Tournament at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill.
The Lady Reds split a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 27, defeating Carroll University (Wis., 9-7), 3-1, before being swept by College of Mount St. Joseph (8-10), 3-0. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Pioneers were 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23, while the Lions' winning scores over Carthage were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-12. On Saturday, Sept. 28, Carthage swept Wisconsin-Stout (11-5), 3-0,before winning over Kalamazoo College (8-8) by a 3-1 margin. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Blue Devils were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-15, while their winning scores in the Kalamazoo contest were 25-17, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-20.
In the win over Carroll (Wis.) on Sept. 27,
Anne Staudinger (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) had a match-high 16 kills with a .406 attack percentage, while
Bria Hailey (So., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) had 10 kills and hit .400. Setter
Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 11.50 assists per set against the Pioneers…in the loss to Mount St. Joseph,
Rachel Fields (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) led the Lady Reds with nine kills, while setter
Karen Chin averaged 7.67 assists per set…
Emily Heuermann (So., Washington, Ill.) had a match-high 14 kills and hit .500 (14-1-26) against Wisconsin-Stout, while Fields had nine kills with a .286 attack percentage. Chin averaged a 12.67 assists per set against the Blue Devils…in the Kalamazoo match, Heuermann again led the way with 10 kills, while Chin averaged 8.25 assists per set. Chin was named to the all-tournament team.
Carthage opens its CCIW-schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 2 by traveling to Elmhurst, Ill., to play defending-conference-champion and No. 6 Elmhurst College (16-1, 1-0 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. match at R.A. Faganel Hall.
