Women's Volleyball Goes 1-3 at the Sept. 20-21 IWU "Barker Classic II"

Wheaton College Tournament Next on Friday-Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (8-6, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 21st in the Sept. 17 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 1-3 at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 20-21 Illinois Wesleyan University "Barker Classic II" at the Shirk Center in Bloomington, Ill.

The Lady Reds split a pair of matches on Friday,, Sept. 20. Carthage lost its first match to Culver-Stockton College (12-3), 3-2, before sweeping Lincoln Christian University (10-3), 3-0. The Wildcats defeated the Lady Reds with set scores of 9-25, 25-21, 25-13, 26-28 and 16-14, while Carthage won over Lincoln Christian, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-16. On Saturday, Sept. 21, Cornell College (10-2) outlasted Carthage, 3-2, and Illinois Wesleyan (9-6) defeated the Lady Reds by a 3-1 margin. Cornell's winning set scores were 19-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-19 and 16-14, while the Titans' winning scores were 25-19, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-16.

In the loss to Culver-Stockton on Sept. 20, Carthage's Angelica Walinski (Sr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North) had 14 kills with a .333 attack percentage, while Emily Heuermann (So. Washington, Ill.) also had 14 kills. Setter Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 9.00 assists per set…in the win over Lincoln Christian, also on Sept. 20, Anne Staudinger (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) had nine kills…in the loss to Cornell on Sept. 21, Heuermann had 18 kills and hit .267, while Rachel Fields (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) and Bria Hailey (So., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) had 11 kills each…in the loss to Illinois Wesleyan, also on Sept. 21, Fields collected 13 kills and Heuermann 10 kills. Karen Chin was named to the all-tournament team and averaged 9.00 assists per set over four matches.

Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 27-28 for the Wheaton College (Ill.) Tournament at King Arena. Carthage plays Carroll University (Wis.) at 3 p.m. and the College of Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Lady Reds take on Wisconsin-Stout at 10:30 a.m. and Kalamazoo College at 2 p.m.
