Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (7-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 20th in the Sept. 10 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 2-2 at its own Carthage Invitational Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 13-14 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

The Lady Reds split a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 13 on the first night of the tournament. Carthage defeated Dominican University (Ill., 5-4), 3-1, before losing to No. 3 and defending-national-champion the University of St. Thomas (Minn., 8-1) by a 3-1 margin. Carthage's winning set scores over Dominican (Ill.) were 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-8. The Tommies' winning scores over the Lady Reds were 20-25, 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.

In the win over Dominican (Ill.), Carthage's Emily Heuermann (So. Washington, Ill.) collected 18 kills with a .238 attack percentage and three block assists. Rachel Mickey (Fr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) and Angelica Walinski (Sr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North) had 10 kills each, with Mickey hitting .321 with a block solo and six block assists. Setter Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 9.60 assists per set. Caitlen Foote and Maddi Zanoni had 18 kills apiece for the Stars. In the loss to St. Thomas (Minn.), Kelly Foley led the Tommies with 18 kills, a .471 attack percentage and thee block assists. Rachel Mickey had 11 kills for Carthage and hit .333, while Walinski had 10 kills. Chin averaged 9.50 assists per set.

In Friday's neutral-site matches, No. 13 the University of Chicago (6-2) defeated Dominican (Ill., 5-3), 3-1; Wisconsin-Platteville (5-4) outlasted Illinois Wesleyan University (6-3), 3-2; Chicago (7-2) swept No. 40 Wisconsin-Eau Claire (4-6), 3-0; St. Thomas (Minn., 7-1) defeated Wisconsin-Platteville (5-5); and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (5-6) defeated Illinois Wesleyan (6-4) by a 3-1 margin.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Wisconsin-Eau Claire (6-6) swept Carthage (6-3), 3-0, with winning scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21. The Lady Reds came back to defeat Wisconsin-Platteville (5-7), 3-1, with scores of 25-16, 25-15, 23-25 and 26-24.

In Saturday's neutral-site contests, Dominican (Ill., 6-4) swept Wisconsin-Platteville (5-6), 3-0; St. Thomas (Minn., 9-1) swept Chicago (7-3), 3-0; and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (7-6) defeated Dominican (Ill., 6-5) by a 3-1 margin.

In Carthage's loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Kelly Schuh led the Blugolds with 11 kills,. Emily Heuermann had 13 kills for the Lady Reds, and Karen Chin averaged 11.00 assists per set. In the win over Wisconsin-Platteville, Heuermann collected a match-high 20 kills and hit .500 (20-2-36) with a block solo and three block assists, while Walinski had 11 kills. Chin averaged 12.00 assists per set against the Pioneers.

Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 20-21 for the Illinois Wesleyan University "Barker Classic II" at the Shirk Center. The Lady Reds take on Culver-Stockton University at 3 p.m. and Lincoln Christian College at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 21, Carthage plays Cornell College at Noon and the host-Titans at 2 p.m.
