Nobody's perfect. The Carthage College women's soccer team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) allowed its first opponent goal of the season on Saturday, Sept. 14 in a 4-1 win over Lake Forest College (4-2-0) at the seventh-annual Carthage "Battle on the Border" at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds have out-scored their four foes this year by a 16-1 margin.
Carthage actually fell behind when the Forester's Becky Esrock scored on a penalty-kick goal at 20:40 first period. The Lady Reds tied the game early in the second period when Alyssa Baker (Sr., Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community) scored at 49:16, assisted by Jessica Socha. Carthage added three more second-period goals. Rachel Post (So., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) tallied the go-ahead goal, assisted,by Sam Anderson, at 70:23. Corinne Brennan (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) made it 3-1 with her sixth goal of the season at 76:17, and Shelby Hawley (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) closed out the scoring at 4-1 with an unassisted goal at 88:12.
Carthage concludes tournament play on Sunday, Sept. 15 by playing Wisconsin Lutheran College (2-4-0) at 3 p.m. In neutral-site tournament matches, the College of Mount St. Joseph (1-6-1) defeated Wisconsin Lutheran, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 13, with Lake Forest College taking on Mount St. Joseph on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
