Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (4-2-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) shut out St. Norbert College (1-3-0), 1-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Donald J. Schneider Stadium in De Pere, Wis.
Following a scoreless first period, Carthage tallied the game's lone goal at 61:53 when
Ryan Crane (Jr., Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson) scored, assisted by
Austin Bitta. The Red Men out-shot the Green Knights by a whopping, 24-2 margin.
"I don't know if I've ever have had a team with this much speed," said Carthage coach
Steve Domin, "or a team that dominates the time-of-possession as much as this one. It's really attractive soccer to watch for large stretches. We took a risk in mixing up the line-up a touch tonight, but it paid dividends. The combination play from
Austin Bitta to
Ryan Crane was textbook give-and-go. We had multiple chances, despite St. Norbert's ability to put a bunch of people behind the ball. Let' see if we can get on a roll."
The Red Men play host to the seventh-annual Carthage "Battle on the Border" on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 13-15 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage takes on Concordia College (Moorhead) on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. and Lake Forest College on Sunday, Sept. 15, also at 7 p.m. In a neutral-site tournament game, Concordia (Moorhead) plays Robert Morris University-Lake County on Friday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m.
