Box Score The Carthage College women's volleyball team (24-13, 5-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) closed out its regular-season schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a 3-0 sweep of CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 24-11, 4-3 CCIW) at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Thunder were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.
With the win, Carthage will be the third seed and Wheaton the fourth seed in the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 8-9 CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament at Elmhurst College's R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill. No. 5 Elmhurst College (33-4, 7-0 CCIW) outlasted Millikin University (26-10, 6-1), 3-1, on Tuesday in a showdown for the league title. The Bluejays' winning scores over the Big Blue were 27-25, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-22. Elmhurst won its league-leading 11th championship.
Carthage will take on second-seeded Millikin in a 4:30 p.m. semifinal match on Friday, with top-seeded Elmhurst playing Wheaton at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal contest. The Saturday, Nov. 9 title match gets underway at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the tournament receives the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
Emily Heuermann (So., Washington, Ill.) led Carthage with 13 kills and a .500 attack percentage (13-3-20), while
Rachel Fields (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) had 11 kills. Setter
Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 10.0 assists per set with eight digs. Shelby Knowles led the Thunder with 13 kills, and Maddie McGinnis added 12 kills and hit .381.
