Box Score The Carthage College women's soccer team (13-4-0, 5-2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) wrapped up its regular-season schedule on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a 4-1 win over CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (8-9-0, 2-5-0) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
The Lady Reds completed the second-best turnaround in CCIW women's soccer history this season, going from 1-4-2 in 2012 to 5-2-0 this season. Only Illinois Wesleyan University, with a 5-2-0 improvement in 1999 over a 1-5-1 finish the previous year has improved that much from one year to a next.
Carthage took a 1-0 lead when
Corinne Brennan (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) scored at 40:42, unassisted.
Rachel Post (So., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) made it a 2-0 game at 60:36 with a goal, assisted by
Sam Anderson. The Bluejays got on the scoreboard with a goal by Courtney O'Keefe at 67:05, assisted by Bib Beckwith. The Lady Reds made it a 3-1 contest with a goal by Brennan, her second of the game and her league-leading 17th of the year at 73:18, assisted by
Taylor Capek. The lead went to 4-1 at 76:39 on a goal by
Alexis Fahlbeck (Jr., Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic), assisted by
Jessica Socha.
The Lady Reds open play in the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 6 versus No. 20 Illinois Wesleyan University (12-2-4, 5-1-1 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. semifinal contest at the Neis Soccer Field in Bloomington, Ill. The Titans are the second-seeded team in the tournament and the Lady Reds the third seed.
In the other semifinal contest, top-seeded, CCIW-champion and No. 4 Wheaton College (Ill., 15-1-2, 6-1-0) entertains fourth-seeded Augustana College (Ill., 12-3-4, 4-2-1 CCIW). The highest-remaining seed following the semifinals will play host to the Saturday, Nov. 9 championship game, with that winner earning the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
