Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (23-13, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 1-2 Benedictine University (Ill.) "Eagle Classic" at the Dan & Ada Rice Center in Lisle, Ill. On Friday, Nov. 1 , Carthage defeated both Concordia University (Ill., 4-19) and Lawrence University (10-17), 3-0. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Cougars were 25-22, 25-23 and 25-12, and their winning scores over the Vikings were 2 5-16, 25-19 and 25-15.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Lady Reds lost to No. 19 the University of Chicago (23-9), 3-1, before sweeping the host-Eagles (16-15) by a 3-0 margin. Chicago's winning set scores over Carthage were 25-20, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-18, while Carthage's winning set scores over Benedictine (Ill.) were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20.
In the sweep of Concordia (Ill.),
Emily Heuermann (So., Washington, Ill.) collected a match-high 13 kills and hit .348, while setter
Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 12.33 assists per set. In Carthage's win over Lawrence, Heuermann had 12 kills with a .370 attack percentage, while
Rachel Fields (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) had eight kills. Chin averaged 10.67 assists per set against the Vikings.
Fields had 16 kills and 10 digs in the Chicago match. In the win over Benedictine (Ill.), Heuermann had 10 kills and hit .375, while
Anne Staudinger (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) collected nine kills with a .364 attack percentage. Chin averaged 10.33 assists per set against the Eagles. Both Heuermann and Chin were named to the all-tournament team.
Carthage closes out its regular-season schedule by playing host to CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill., 24-10, 4-2 CCIW) on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in a 7 p.m. match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
