Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (14-9, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 33rd in the Oct. 1 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 4-5 Wartburg College "Knights Classic" at the Levick Arena at the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center in Waverly, Iowa.
Carthage opened tournament play on Friday, Oct. 4 with a 3-1 win over Luther College (11-10) before defeating Bethel University (Minn. 9-10) by the same margin. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Norse were 25-20, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-16, and their winning scores over the Royals were 27-25, 25-15, 12-25 and 25-21.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Lady Reds swept St. Olaf College (6-14), 3-0, before losing to Concordia College (Moorhead, 14-6) by a 3-1 margin. Carthage's winning scores over the Oles were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20, while the Cobbers' winning scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15.
Anne Staudinger (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) paced Carthage with 13 kills and a .294 attack percentage against Luther, while
Emily Heuermann (So., Washington, Ill.) had 10 kills.
Bria Hailey (So., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) collected four block solos and four block assists, while setter
Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 9.25 assists per set. In the win over Bethel (Minn.), Staudinger had a match-high 16 kills. Hailey had 14 kills and hit. 407, while Heuermann had 13 kills with a .258 attack percentage. Chin averaged 11.50 assists per set against Bethel.
In the St. Olaf match, Heuermann had 15 kills with a .423 attack percentage, while Chin averaged 11.67 assists per set. Heuermann collected 16 kills in the loss to Concordia (Moorhead), while Staudinger had 12 kills and Chin averaged 10.25 assists per set. Defensive specialist
Hanna Cahoon (Jr., Watertown, Wis.) was named to the all-tournament team with a 6.80 digs-per-set average.
Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (9-10, 0-2 CCIW) on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in a 7 p.m. match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
