Wartburg College "Knights Classic" Next for the Lady Reds

Box Score The Carthage College women's volleyball team (11-8, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 33rd in the Oct. 1 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, opened its CCIW-schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 2 with a 3-1 loss to defending-conference-champion and No. 6 Elmhurst College (17-1, 2-0 CCIW) at R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill. The Bluejays' winning set scores over the Lady Reds were 16-25, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-9.

Sam Szarmach led Elmhurst with 12 kills and a .286 attack percentage, while Marci Novak had nine kills and hit. 412. Emily Heuermann (So., Washington, Ill.) paced the Lady Reds with 15 kills and a .483 attack percentage. Anne Staudinger (Sr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) had 13 kills, and Bria Hailey (So., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) collected nine kills and hit .375. Setter Karen Chin (So., Mundelein, Ill.) averaged 8.75 assists per set.

The Lady Reds travel to Waverly, Iowa, on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 4-5 to play in the Wartburg College "Knights Classic" at the Levick Arena at the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center. Carthage plays Luther College at 3 p.m. and Bethel University (Minn.) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Lady Reds take on St. Olaf College at 10 a.m. and Concordia College (Moorhead) at 12:15 p.m.
