Box Score The Carthage College women's soccer team (6-2-0, 0-1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) gave the No. 1 team in the nation all it handle on Wednesday, Oct. 2 but came away with a 2-1 loss to Wheaton College (Ill., 10-0-0, 1-0-0 CCIW) at Joe Bean Stadium in Wheaton, Ill. The game opened conference play for both teams.
Following a scoreless first period, Carthage took a 1-0 lead when
Rachel Post (So., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) scored, unassisted and her fifth goal of the year, at 52:44. The Thunder got on the scoreboard and tied the game, 1-1, at 62:44 on a goal by Leah DeMoss, assisted by Annie Woolridge. Two minutes later, Woolridge scored on a penalty kick to put Wheaton up, 2-1, at 66:54. That was all the scoring, with the Thunder out-shooting the Lady Reds by a 21-4 margin.
Carthage travels to travel to Decatur, Ill., on Saturday, Oct. 5 to take on CCIW-opponent Millikin University (5-5-0, 0-2-0 CCIW) in a 2 p.m. contest at the Millikin Soccer Complex.
