Lady Reds Travel to the University of Dubuque on Tuesday

Box Score The Carthage College women's soccer team (11-2-0, 4-1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked ninth in the Oct. 15 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll, ran its current winning streak to five games on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a 3-1 win over CCIW-opponent North Park University (6-6-1, 2-2-0 CCIW) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage opened the season with a five-game win streak.

With the victory over North Park, the Lady Reds remain in second place in the league with two games to go. Wheaton College (Ill.) leads the CCIW with a 4-0-0 mark following a 2-0 win over third-place Illinois Wesleyan University, also on Oct. 19. Carthage is a perfect 8-0 this season at Art Keller Field.

North Park got on the scoreboard first with a corner-kick goal by Katrina Dekirmendjian at 13:10. One minute later, Carthage answered with back-to-back goals, both in less than 60 seconds, to take a 2-1 lead. Corinne Brennan (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) took a shot at 14:10 that was saved by Vikings goalkeeper Paola Andrade. Brennan scored off the rebound at 14:18 for her league-leading 13th goal. At 15:17, Sam Anderson (Sr., Hampshire, Ill.) scored on a shot off the crossbar. Alexis Fahlbeck (Jr., Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) scored on a breakaway goal over the head of Andrade at 67:24, assisted by both Brennan and Erin Ganzke, to give Carthage a 3-1 edge.

The Lady Reds had a 15-13 edge in shots over the Vikings, including a 10-8 margin in shots on-goal, with goalkeeper Abby Alm (So., North Branch, Minn.) collecting seven saves.

Carthage travels to Dubuque, Iowa, on Tuesday, Oct. 22 to play non-conference opponent the University of Dubuque (11-4) in a 5 p.m. game at the Oyen Soccer Field. The Lady Reds return to CCIW-action on Saturday, Oct. 26 with a 3 p.m. game versus Illinois Wesleyan University at the Neis Soccer Field in Bloomington, Ill.
