Wisconsin-Whitewater "Warhawk Invitational" Results
The Carthage College women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its 2012-13 season on Friday, Aug. 31 by blanking CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (0-1, 0-1 CCIW), 9-0, at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Bari Reynolds (Jr., Sterling, Ill., 1-0) was a winner at No. 1 singles over Andrea Kerwin, 6-3, 7-6(4).
Haleigh McPeek (So., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 1-0 ) defeated Helen Alex at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Erin Henrickson (So., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 1-0) was a winner at No. 3 singles, as was
Abbi Howell (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest, 1-0) at No. 4 singles,
Kirsten Peterson (Fr., Hastings, Minn., 1-0) at No. 5 singles and
Holly Weber (Jr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central, 1-0) at No. 6 singles.
Reynolds and McPeek (1-0) won their No. 1 doubles match over the Titans, as did the No. 2 team of Hendrickson and Howell (1-0) and the No. 3 tandem of Peterson and Weber (1-0).
On Saturday, Sept. 1, Carthage finished fourth at the Wisconsin-Whitewater “Warhawk Invitational” at the Wangerin Tennis Courts in Whitewater, Wis. The host-Warhawks won the eight-team event with 47 points, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse second at 28.50, Wisconsin-Eau Claire third at 25, Carthage fourth at 16.50, Grinnell College fifth at 14, Illinois Wesleyan University sixth at 13, Augustana College (Ill.) seventh with nine points and Wisconsin-Oshkosh eighth with six points.
Bari Reynolds (3-1) finished third at No. 1 singles,
Haleigh McPeek (3-1) second at No. 2 singles, and
Kirsten Peterson (2-2) was fourth at No. 3 singles. Erin Hendrickson and Abby Howell (2-2) finished seventh at No. 1 doubles,
Holly Weber and
Kelsey Bowen (Jr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township, 1-2) sixth at No. 2 doubles, and
Daria Ekkert (Fr., Lemont, Ill./Mount Assisi Academy) and
Martha Peterson (Fr., East Moline, Ill./United Township, 1-2) were sixth at No. 3 doubles. The Lady Reds travel to Appleton, Wis., on Tuesday, Sept. 4 to play Lawrence University in a 3 p.m. match.
