Carthage Women's Volleyball Goes 3-1 at Elmhurst Tournament I

No. 12 Lady Reds Open CCIW-Schcedule at Wheaton (Ill.) on Sept. 11

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (3-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 12th in the pre-season American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 3-1 at the Friday-Saturday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 Elmhurst College Tournament I at R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill. 

The Lady Reds opened their 2012 season on Friday, Aug. 31 by splitting a pair of matches.  Carthage opened tournament play with a 3-0 sweep of John Carroll University (0-1).  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Blue Streaks were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-22.  Carthage fell to St. Norbert College (2-0), 3-2, in Friday's second match.  The Green Knights' winning scores over the Lady Reds were 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 27-25 and 15-11. 

On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Lady Reds defeated No. 39 U.S. Coast Guard Academy (0-3), 3-1, and Carroll University (Wis., 1-3), also 3-1.  The Lady Reds' winning scores over the Bears were  25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, and their winning scores over the Pioneers were 25-16, 25-14, 20-25, 25-10. 

Carthage's Angelia Walinski (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North) was named to the all-tournament team.  Walinksi collected a team-high 10 kills and hit .529 in Carthage's 3-0 win over John Carroll.  She had 21 kills and hit .312 against St. Norbert College, while Genelle McFarland (Fr., Watertown, Wis.) had 10 kills with a .333 attack percentage…Walinksi had 17 kills versus the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, while Emily Heuermann (Fr., Washington, Ill.) had 16 kills and hit .351.  Walinksi had 15 kills with a .357 attack percentage against Carroll (Wis.), while Rachel Fields (So., Chicago, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) collected 11 kills with a .258 mark.  The Lady Reds open their CCIW-schedule versus Wheaton College (Ill.) on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with a 7 p.m. match at King Arena in Wheaton, Ill.
