No. 34 Carthage Women's Volleyball Goes 4-0 at the Oct. 26-27 IWU "Barker Classic 3"

No. 34 Lady Reds Play Host to Augustana (Ill.) in Tuesday's CCIW Play-in Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Carthage College women's volleyball team (24-11, 5-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), tied for 34th place in the Oct. 23 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 4-0 at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 26-27 Illinois Wesleyan University “Barker Classic 3” at the Shirk Center Bloomington, Ill. 

On Friday, Oct. 26, Carthage swept the University of Dallas (17-6), 3-0, before defeating Anderson University (10-19) by a 3-1 margin.  The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Crusaders were 25-20, 28-26 and 25-16, and their winning scores over the Ravens were 23-25, 25-10, 25-13 and 27-25. 

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Lady Reds swept Eureka College (4-29) and Central College (9-18), both by 3-0 margins.  Carthage's winning set scores over Eureka were 25-8, 25-13 and 25-9, and its winning scores over Central were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-22.  

Outside hitter Angelica Walinksi (Jr., Skokie, Ill./Niles-North) and setter Karen Chin (Fr., Mundelein, Ill.) were named to the all-tournament team.  Walinski collected a team-high 14 kills with a .300 attack percentage in the Dallas match, while Emily Heuermann (Fr., Washington, Ill.) had 11 kills with a .310 mark.  Heuermann had 16 kills and hit .294 against Anderson, while Walinski had 14 kills and Bria Hailey (Fr., Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) 10 kills with a .625 mark.  Chin averaged 9.25 assists per set against the Ravens.  In the Eureka contest, Heuermann had nine kills and hit .692, while Chin averaged 9.33 assists per set.  Hailey had 15 kills with a .619 attack percentage against Central, with Walinski adding 14 kills and a .321 average and Chin averaging 14.33 assists per set.
 
Carthage will be the second-seeded team next week in the CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament and will play host to seventh-seeded Augustana College (Ill., 20-10, 2-5 CCIW) a Tuesday, Oct. 30 play-in match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 7 p.m.  In the other three play-in matches, top-seeded Elmhurst College (26-7, 7-0 CCIW), ranked ninth nationally, will play host to eighth-seeded North Park University (7-22, 0-7 CCIW); third-seeded North Central College (23-10, 5-2 CCIW) entertains sixth-seeded Wheaton College (Ill., 11-22, 2-5 CCIW;; with fourth-seeded Millikin University (24-9, 4-3 CCIW) playing host to No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan University (18-14, 3-4 CCIW).  The highest-remaining seed plays host to the semifinals and the championship on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3.
