Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Michael Dombrowski (Jr., Johnsburg, Ill.) at 23:01, his ninth of the year, and assisted by Greg Pignataro.  The Red Men made it a 2-0 contest at 51:58 second period when Drew Liogas (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) scored, also assisted by Pignataro.  The Foresters cut the lead to 2-1 at 82:01 on a goal by Themis Mourikis, but Pignataro struck with a penalty-kick goal at 89:21 to give Carthage a 3-1 victory. Pignataro wound up with a goal and two assists.  The Red Men had a 15-10 edge in shots over the Foresters.

“Lake Forest was a good mid-week game against a good opponent,” said Carthage coach Steve Domin.  “We were a little nervous about one of their players, Mahir Mameledzija, who's one of the top scorers in the nation, but we kept him out of goal.  That was a good effort by Will Veliz and the back line.  We played Lucas Dykstra, our backup goalkeeper, and that worked out pretty well.”  Carthage travels to Chicago on Saturday night, Oct. 20 to take on CCIW-opponent North Park University (8-2-4, 2-0-2 CCIW) in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
