The Carthage College women's soccer team (0-1-1, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) played Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (0-0-1) to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Pritzlaff Field in Claremont, Calif. 

The Athenas took 1 -0 first-half lead behind a goal by Isabel Lester as time ran out in the period. Carthage's Rachel Jason (Jr., Deerfield, Ill.) knotted the score, assisted by Michelle Sobey, at 86:00. 

Carthage opened its 2011 season with a 7-1 loss to No. 19 the University of Redlands (1-0-0) on Friday, Sept. 2 at Farquhar Field in Redlands, Calif.  The Bulldogs jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first half behind goals by Maddy Phillips, a penalty-kick score at 27:42, Kaily Benenati at 32:59 and Samantha Rivera at 42:39.  Carthage's Jessica Socha (Fr., Crestwood, Ill./Chicago-Marist) cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal at 69:09, but Redlands came right back with goals at 72:55 by Phillips, her second of the game, and one at 73:18 by Megan King to go up, 5-1.  Rivera scored her second goal at 84:56, and Kristen Arroyo added a final score at 88:17 to close out the scoring.  The Bulldogs out-shot the Lady Reds, 33-10.
 
Following the Southern California trip, Carthage flies east to play in the Rutgers-Newark “Raider Classic” in Newark, N.J. On Friday, Sept. 9, the Lady Reds play the host-Scarlet Raiders (2-2) in an 8 p.m., EDT game at Alumni Field, followed by a Saturday, Sept. 10 contest against the State University of New York-New Paltz, also at 8 p.m., EDT.
