The Carthage College women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to Clarke University (3-6-0), 2-1, on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the fifth-annual Carthage “Battle on the Border” at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.  Carthage opened tournament play on Friday night, Sept. 23 with a 5-0 win over Spalding University (0-6-0). 

In Sunday's loss to Clarke, the Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the first half on an unassisted goal by Beth Sherer. The Lady Reds tied the game in the second period on a goal by Taylor Capek (So., Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek), her fifth of the year and assisted by Alyssa Baker. Sherer scored the game-winning goal, her second of the game and assisted by Kelsey Gleich, at 83:30. The shots were even, with 14 taken by each team. 

The Lady Reds open their CCIW-schedule on Saturday, Oct. 1 by playing host to Augustana College (Ill.) in a 6 p.m. game, also at Art Keller Field.The Vikings were ranked ninth in the Sept. 27 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll.
