The Carthage College men's soccer team (5-4-1, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) came from behind to edge Clarke University (4-4-0), 3-2, on Sunday, Sept. 25 to close out the fifth-annual “Battle on the Border” at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage played No. 8 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5-1-2) to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime, on Saturday night, Sept. 24, and the Red Men opened tournament play on Friday night, Sept. 23 with a 5-1 win over Spalding University (1-6-0).
In Sunday's game, the Crusaders took an early, 2-0 lead behind goals by Mark Dismang at 4:18 and Dino Ramic at 6:54. Dismang's goal was assisted by Ricky Chicas, and Ramic's goal, his fifth of the year, was assisted by Jared Perez. The Red Men came right back with two first-period goals. Frank Delgado (Jr., Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) scored, unassisted, at 15:47, and Greg Pignataro (Sr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) scored at 24:23 on a penalty kick. Carthage's Billy Hamilton (So., Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) scored the go-ahead goal at 81:28, assisted by Delgado. The Red Men out-shot the Crusaders, 13-8.
"The pace of today's game was the complete opposite of last night's game against Wisconsin-Oshkosh,” said Carthage head coach Steve Domin. “You could tell we were playing our third game in as many days against a worthy opponent, and I will certainly think twice before I agree to do that again. We tried shaking up the line up to start the match, and wound up having to battle back out of a hole.  Utilizing the entire team, our team showed a handful of character coming back to get the result.”

Carthage opens its CCIW-schedule on Saturday, Oct. 1 by playing host to Augustana College (Ill.) in an 8 p.m. game at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Vikings are tied for sixth place in the Sept. 27 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region poll.
