The Carthage College men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) played No. 8 Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5-1-2) to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime, on Saturday night, Sept. 24 at the Carthage “Battle on the Border” at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage opened tournament play on Friday night, Sept. 23 with a 5-1 win over Spalding University (1-6-0).

Carthage's game with Wisconsin-Oshkosh was delayed 40 minutes in the first period due to lightning. The Red Men out-shot the Titans, 13-11. Each of the goalkeepers, Milan Tijanic (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Park Ridge-Maine East) for Carthage and James Pike for UW-Oshkosh, collected six saves each.

"Tonight was just an old-fashioned battle between two great teams,” said Carthage head coach Steve Domin, “and you can certainly understand why Wisconsin-Oshkosh was in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship semifinals last year last year and ranked so high this year. Although a fair result, I felt we had several nice opportunities in the second period and subsequent overtimes periods to put this one away.  Us playing yesterday may have worked out a bit in their favor. Once again, there is no relief with Clarke coming to town on a three-win streak.”

Carthage concludes the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 25 with a 4 p.m. game versus Clarke University (4-3-0).
