Box Score The Carthage College men's soccer team (0-3-0, 0-0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened play at the Rutgers-Newark “Raider Classic” in Newark, N.J., on Saturday, Sept. 10 with a 2-0 loss to Drew University (3-0) at Alumni Field. Carthage is off to its worst start since the 1984 team opened the season with an 0-4 record.
Drew scored once in each period. Tommy Tolve scored an unassisted goal at 28:22, and Kevin Veliz scored on a penalty kick at 73:55. The Red Men did have a narrow, 12-11 lead in shots over the Rangers. Carthage takes on the host-Scarlet Raiders on Sunday, Sept. 11 at Noon, EDT. Rutgers-Newark (3-0) plays host to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday.
