The Carthage College men's tennis team (17-6, 4-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) concluded its regular-season schedule on Friday, April 29 with a 6-3 win over CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (14-7, 2-3 CCIW) in Bloomington, Ill.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 23-4), ranked 16th in the April 14 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, defeated the Titans' Brian Piotrowski at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 7-6(8).
Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 23-5) won over Brian Sorich at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 22-3) was a winner No. 3 singles, as was
Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 6-9) at No. 4 singles and
Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 14-12) at No. 5 singles.
Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 4-12) lost at No. 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (22-5), ranked 12th in the region, lost to Piotrowski and Sorich, 8-3. The Red Men's No. 2 team of Whiteside and
Nick Boomgarden, 20-6) was a winner over the Titans, but the number-three tandem of McLean and Mull (1-2) lost. Carthage returns to Bloomington on Friday-Saturday, May 6-7 for the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
