Box Score The Carthage College women's basketball team (7-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), closed out its home, non-conference schedule on Monday, Dec. 12 by trouncing Beloit College (3-6), 79-49, at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage led by 21 points midway through the first period, 25-4, at 10:38, and the Lady Reds led by 36 at halftime, 50-14. The Buccaneers turned the ball over 21 times in the first half and connected on only four-of-22 field goals. The lead went to 40 points, 54-14, at 18:24 second period. Even though Beloit played better in the second period, the Buccaneers never got any closer 30 points, which was the final margin at 79-49.
Carthage shot 48 percent (29-60), including 59 percent in the first half (19-32), while Beloit shot just 28 percent for the game (15-54) . The Lady Reds had a narrow, 39-38 rebounding edge over the Buccaneers.
Cailee Corcoran (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) led the Lady Reds with 16 points on seven-of-11 field goals, while
Kristi Schmidt (So., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community) came off the bench to score 14 points on three-of-six shooting and eight-of-10 free throws. Kandace Fox topped Beloit with 16 points on seven-of-14 field goals.
The Lady Reds travel to Las Vegas, Nev., on Tuesday-Thursday, Dec. 27-29 to play two games at the “D3hoops.com Classic” at the South Point Casino Arena. Carthage plays DeSales University (5-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m., PST and No. 14 Wisconsin-River Falls on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 9 a.m., PST.
