The Carthage College women's volleyball team (10-5, 2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 14th in the Sept. 21 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept No. 22 the University of Chicago (13-3), 3-0, on Wednesday night, Sept. 22 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage's winning set scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20.
Middle blocker Cindy Cavanagh (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) led the Lady Reds with nine kills. Right-side player Rachel Swoboda (Sr., De Pere, Wis./Wrightstown) had seven kills and hot. 250 with six blocks (1 solo, 5 assisted). Middle blocker Jordan Burkholder (Jr., Rockford, Ill./Christian Life) collected six kills with a .286 attack percentage and seven blocks (1 solo, 6 assisted). Setter Drewann Pancratz (Jr., Schaumburg, Ill.), this weeks' CCIW "Defensive Player/Setter of the Week," averaged 9.67 assists per set. Isis Smalls toped the Maroons with 12 kills.
On Friday-Saturday, Sept. 24-25, Carthage travels to Whitewater, Wis., to play in the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament II at the Williams Center Volleyball Arena. On Friday, Sept. 23, the Lady Reds play No. 3 Emory University at 6 p.m. and Iowa Wesleyan College at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 24, Carthage takes on the host and No. 5 Warhawks at 10 a.m. and No. 22 the University of Chicago at Noon.
