Red Men Travel to University of Chicago on Wednesday

The Carthage College men's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) wrapped up play in its home “Battle on the Border” tournament on Sunday, Sept. 19 with a 1-0 win over Clarke University (3-4-1) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. 

Following a scoreless first period, Carthage's Christian Harvey (Fr., Woodstock, Ill.) broke the tie with a goal at 63:30, assisted by Rafal Zalewski. On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Red Men won a 1-0 decision over the University of Dubuque (5-1-0).  The Spartans were ranked sixth in the Sept. 14 National Soccer Coaches Association of America North Region poll.
 
In other tournament games, the St. Norbert College women's team (1-4-0) defeated the University of Dubuque (3-3-1), 2-1 in overtime, on Friday, Sept. 17, followed by the Dubuque men's squad (5-0-0) defeating St. Norbert (1-3-0), 2-1 in double-overtime. On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Ashford University women's team (6-3-0) defeated Clarke (3-2-1), 3-2, at 1 p.m., with the Ashford men (5-0-3) upending Clarke (3-3-1) by a 4-1 margin. The Carthage men's team nipped Dubuque, 1-0, on Saturday. On Sunday, Sept. 19, the Ashford women (7-3-0) blanked St. Norbert (1-5-0), 2-0, and the Ashford men (6-0-3) edged St. Norbert (1-4-0), 1-0 in overtime. Five of the 10 tournament games went into overtime. Carthage travels to Chicago on Wednesday, Sept. 22 to play the University of Chicago (4-2) in a 4:30 p.m. game at Stagg Field.
