The Carthage College women's volleyball team (5-4, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 13th in the Sept. 14 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, opened its CCIW-schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 14 by sweeping Augustana College (Ill., 2-9, 0-1 CCIW), 3-0, at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage's winning set scores were 25-13, 25-15 and 25-16. The win extended the Lady Reds' CCIW-record regular-season winning streak to 45 matches going back to 2003.
Carthage outside hitter Michelle Madeja (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had nine kills and hit .467, while middle blocker Cindy Cavanagh ((Jr., Naperville, Ill./Aurora-Waubonsie Valley) had seven kills with a .462 attack percentage and five blocks.
On Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18, the Lady Reds travel to Greencastle, Ind., to play in the DePauw University Tournament at Neal Fieldhouse. On Friday, Sept. 17, Carthage plays Marietta College (5-5) at 2 p.m., (all time EDT) and Susquehanna University (6-4) at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Lady Reds take on the host-Tigers at Noon and then play a second match at either 2 or 3:30 p.m.
