The Carthage College women's track and field team (42-16 outdoor record) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium in Wheaton, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan University won its second league title and second in a row with 245 points, followed by North Central College second at 214.50, Carthage third at 113.50, Wheaton (Ill.) fourth at 78, Augustana College (Ill.) fifth at 71, Millikin University sixth at 68, Elmhurst College seventh at 18 and North Park University eighth with eight points.

Carthage's Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) won the shot put (43-4 ½) and finished second in the hammer throw (153-1). Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) took first place in the hammer throw (155-5), as did Christine Nelson (So., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) in the heptathlon (4,422 points) . Nelson was named the “field athlete of the meet.” Ashura Jenkins (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) was second in the 100-meter dash (12.07) and third in the 200-meter dash (25.63). Heather Gilmore (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa/Pleasant Hill-Southeast) was third in the 100-meter high hurdles (15.12), as was Katie Gordon (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) in the discus (122-3).
