The Carthage College women's track and field team (37-14 outdoor record) won the Saturday, May 1 Wisconsin Private College Track and Field Championship at Carroll University's Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis. The Lady Reds won their 14th state with 186 points, followed by Carroll (Wis.) second at 140, St. Norbert College third at 123, Ripon College fourth at 103, Beloit College fifth at 87, the Milwaukee School of Engineering sixth at 47, Edgewood College seventh at 34, Wisconsin Lutheran College eighth at 33 and Concordia University (Wis.) ninth with 18 points. 

Carthage's Ashura Jenkins (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Christian), the May 4 CCIW "Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week," won both the 100-meter dash (meet-record 11.89 with an NCAA-provisional 12.18 in the preliminaries, ranked 12th nationally) and the 200-meter dash (meet-record and NCAA-provisional 24.79, ranked sixth nationally). 

Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won both the shot put (39-4 ½) and the hammer throw (142-4). Teresina Watson (Jr., Racine, Wis./Walden III) finished first in the 400-meter dash (60.31), as did Katie Gordon (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) in the discus (119-4) and Joslyn Drew (So., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the long jump (16-6 ½).

Julia Hiett (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township ) was second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (68.81), as was Lauren Hyser (Fr., Belvidere, Ill.) in the pole vault (10-0). Karin Wirth (Fr., Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) finished third in the 1,500-meter run (5:02.62), as did Lauren Sible (So., Oregon, Ill//Byron) in the 800-meter run (2:31.56), Sarah Thompson (So., Byron, Ill.) in the javelin (110-4) and Christine Nelson (So., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) in the high jump (4-11). The Lady Reds also won the 400-meter relay.  Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill, on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium.
