The Carthage College women's track and field team (5-2) opened its outdoor schedule by finishing third at the Saturday, April 3 North Central College “First Chance Invitational” at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill. North Central won the 10-team event with 294 points, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point second at 144, Carthage third at 132, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 113, Harper College fifth at 27, Benedictine University (Ill.) sixth at 25, Aurora University seventh at 24, Amherst College eighth at 10, the College of DuPage ninth with three points and Northwestern University 10th with two points.
Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) won the shot put (40-) and finished second in the hammer throw (140-3) and third in the discus (121-8). Amanda Inkinen(Jr., East Dundee, Ill/Carpentersville—Dundee Crown) took second place in the shot put (36-0 ¾), as did Katie Gordon (So., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) in the discus (122-7), Christine Nelson (So., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) in the long jump (16-7 ¼), Teresina Watson (Jr. Racine, Wis./Walden III) finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:01.20) and Sarah Thompson (So., Byron, Ill.) in the high jump (5-1). Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished third in the hammer throw (138-11). Karin Wirth (Fr., Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:58.14), as did Molly Chlum (So., Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in the 400-meter dash (1:02.93).
Carthage travels to Chicago on Friday, April 9 for the Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field, beginning at Noon.
