The Carthage College women's track and field team (21-6 outdoor record) finished fifth at the Friday, April 9 Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Chicago's Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.
The host-Maroons won the 22-team event with 149 points, followed by North Central College second at 131, Lewis University third at 114, Illinois-Chicago fourth at 60, Carthage fifth at 51, Loyola University (Ill.) sixth at 50, DePaul University seventh at 40, Northwestern University eighth at 33, Wheaton College (Ill.) ninth at 32, Olivet Nazarene University 10th at 28, St. Xavier University 11th at 24, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 12th at 20, Aurora University 13th at 17, Judson University 14th at 15, Trinity Christian College 15th at 14, Robert Morris University (Ill.) 16th at 10, Concordia University (Chicago) 17th with seven points, Benedictine University (Ill.) and Chicago State University tied for 18th with six points each, the Illinois Institute of Technology and North Park University tied for 20th with four points each and the College of DuPage 22nd with three points.
Ashura Jenkins (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Christian) finished second in the 200-meter dash (26.06) and third in the 100-meter dash (12.54). Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) took third place in the shot put (39-7), as did Sarah Thompson (So., Byron, Ill.) in the heptathlon (2,452 points). The Lady Reds collected a win from their 1,600-meter relay team (4:07.58). Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Saturday, April 17 for the Wheaton College (Ill.) "Twilight Invitational" at McCully Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
