The Carthage College women's track and field team (54-11) finished fifth at the Friday, Feb. 12 Chicagoland Indoor Track and Field Championship at Lewis University's John F. Kennedy Sports Center in Romeoville, Ill. North Central College won the 20-team event with 141 points, followed by the University of Chicago second at 119.50, Lewis third at 118.50, Illinois-Chicago fourth at 80, Carthage fifth at 44.50, Wheaton College (Ill.) sixth at 25, St. Xavier University seventh at 21, Robert Morris University (Ill.) eighth at 16, Judson University ninth at 14, Elmhurst College and Valparaiso University tied for 10th at 13 each, Loyola University (Ill.) and Trinity Christian College tied for 12th at 11 each, the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 14th with nine points, the College of DuPage 15th at 7.5, Concordia University (Chicago) 16th with five points, Harper College and North Park University tied for 17th with four points each, Benedictine University (Ill.) 19th with three and the Illinois Institute of Technology 20th with two points.
Carthage's Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) finished third in the shot put (41-11 ¼). Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished fourth in the weight throw (53-1). Teresina Watson (Jr., Racine, Wis./Walden III) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.49), as did Karin Wirth (Fr., Springfield, Ill./.Pleasant Plains) in the one-mile run (5:27.44). The Lady Reds travel to Chicago on Saturday, Feb. 20 for the University of Chicago “Margaret Bradley Invitational” at the Henry Crown Field House, beginning at 11 a.m.
