The Carthage College women's soccer team (7-4-2, 0-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 6-6-1), 3-1, on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 7 at Fitting Field in Mequon, Wis.

The Lady Reds took a 2-0 lead in the first period behind goals by Alyssa Baker (Fr., Lake Villa, Ill./Lakes Community), assisted by Maria Korosis, at 28:18, and Rachel Jason (So., Deerfield, Ill.), assisted by Kia Miller, at 33:19.  Jason's goal was her seventh of the year.  The Falcons' Lauren Straehler scored her 12th goal of the year at 47:30 in the second half, assisted by Renée Hecker, to cut the lead to 2-1.  Carthage's Michelle Sobey (So., Bull Valley, Ill./Woodstock) closed out the scoring with a goal at 60:01, assisted by Taylor Capek.

“Today was a good win for us,” said Carthage coach Susie Foster. “Concordia always battles hard, and we have good games with them every year.  We were happy with our ability to score, despite some sloppy possessions, but it's always great to get a win even when you don't play your best game.  That's a good sign, and we will try to build on that as we get ready for Wheaton next week.” Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent and No. 21 Wheaton College (Ill.) on Wednesday, Oct. 13 in a 5 p.m. game at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.
