The Carthage College men's soccer team (10-6-2, 3-2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) played CCIW-opponent North Park University (9-4-2, 3-1-2 CCIW) to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.  The Vikings were ranked 26th in the Oct. 26 National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division III poll and fourth in Oct. 27 NCAA Division III Central Regional poll.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams traded goals within 54 seconds of each other in the second period. The Vikings' Mike Herbst broke the 0-0 tie with a goal, assisted by Filip Lindmark, at 48:09. The Red Men's Tyler Peterson (Sr., New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) answered with a goal, assisted by Aleks Ursosevic (Jr. Skokie, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy), at 49:03. That closed out the scoring, as the two teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods.

“Tonight's result was probably fitting for two very-talented teams in clearly the toughest soccer conference in the Midwest,” said Carthage coach Steve Domin. Recent years have yielded tough, fast and physical matches with North Park on the road, and playing ranked national and regional opponents day-in-and-day-out this year helped us today with hitting another gear. We seem to have had North Park's number the last few years, even though they are a well-coached and talent-rich team."

On Sunday, Oct. 31, the Red Men close out their regular-season schedule by playing host to conference-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (6-7-2, 3-2-1 CCIW) in a 4:30 p.m. contest at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.  The Red Men need either a win or a tie over the Titans, who are ranked sixth in the regional poll, to qualify for the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament.
