The Carthage College women's volleyball team (23-7, 6-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 10th in the Oct. 26 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, closed out its regular-season CCIW-schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 26 with a 3-1 win over North Central College (12-18, 2-5 CCIW) at Gregory Arena at Merner Fieldhouse in Naperville, Ill. The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Cardinals were 25-13, 22-25, 25-12 and 25-20.
Carthage middle blocker Cindy Cavanagh (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) had 13 kills with a .231 attack percentage and six block assists. Middle blocker Jordan Burkholder (Jr., Rockford, Ill./Christian Life) had 12 kills and hit .478 (12-1-23). Outside hitter Lauren Dembkowski (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) had 12 kills with a .286 mark, and outside hitter Michelle Madeja (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) added 10 kills. Setter Drewann Pancratz (Jr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaged 10.0 assists per set.
No. 27 Millikin University (24-5, 7-0 CCIW) clinched an outright league title on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Augustana College (Ill.) in Decatur, Ill. The Big Blue will have the top-seed in the Nov. 2 CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament play-in matches and will play either eighth-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University or North Park University. Second-seeded Carthage will play host to the seventh-seeded team in a 7 p.m. play-in match on Tuesday. The highest-remaining seed after Tuesday's four play-in matches plays host to the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 5-6 CCIW Women's Volleyball Tournament.
On Friday-Saturday, Oct. 29-30 the Lady Reds play host to the Carthage Invitational Tournament at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. Besides Carthage, four other nationally-ranked teams are playing in the tournament. On Friday, Oct. 29, Carthage plays No. 13 Heidelberg University at 3:30 p.m. and No. 17 Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 30, the Lady Reds take on No. 29 Trinity University at Noon and No. 12 the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
