Women's Volleyball Goes 4-0 to Win the Oct. 22-23 UW-La Crosse "Halloween Invitational"

The Carthage College women's volleyball team (22-7, 5-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked seventh in the Oct. 19 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, went 4-0 to win the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 22-23 Wisconsin-La Crosse “Halloween Invitational” at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse, Wis. 

Carthage opened tournament play on Friday with 3-0 wins over both Wisconsin-Superior (8-19) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (10-13) The Lady Reds' winning set scores over the Yellowjackets were 25-10, 25-17 and 25-15, and their winning scores over the host-Eagles were 25-23, 25-15 and 26-24.

Middle blocker Jordan Burkholder (Jr., Rockford, Ill./Christian Life) had seven kills with a .353 attack percentage in the Wisconsin-Superior match, while outside hitter Lauren Dembkowski (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) also had seven kills with a .312 mark. In the Wisconsin-La Crosse contest, Dembkowski tallied 12 kills with a .303 attack percentage, while outside hitter Michelle Madeja (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had 10 kills. Burkholder collected five block assists against the Eagles, and setter Drewann Pancratz (Jr., Schaumburg, Ill.) averaged 10.3 assists per set. Burkholder and Madeja were named to the all-tournament team.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, the Lady Reds swept Wisconsin-River Falls (15-13), 3-0, before outlasting Luther College (12-14), 3-2. Carthage's winning set scores over UW-River Falls were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17, and its winning scores over Luther were 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 19-25 and 15-10. 

Carthage travels to Naperville, Ill., on Tuesday, Oct. 26 to conclude its regular-season CCIW schedule with a 7 p.m. match against North Central College (12-17, 2-4 CCIW) at Gregory Arena at Merner Fieldhouse.
