The Carthage College women's track and field team (16-2), ranked 10th in the Jan. 21 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, finished second at the Jan. 23 Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater, Wis. The host-Warhawks won the nine-team event with 203 points, followed by Carthage second at 121.50, Loras College third at 84, Carroll University fourth at 76.50, Beloit College fifth at 48, Judson University sixth at 34, St. Mary's University (Minn.) seventh at 30, Aurora University eighth at 21 and North Park University ninth with 16 points.
Carthage collected wins from Teresina Watson (Jr., Racine, Wis./Walden III) in the 400-meter dash (1:02.53) and Ahvia Greene (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the weight throw (51-9 ¾). Christine Nelson (So., Rock City, Ill./Dakota) finished second in the 400-meter dash (1:03.43) and third in the long jump (16-1 ¾). Kelly McHale (Jr., Naperville, Ill./North) finished second in the 200-meter dash (27.91), as did Karin Wirth (Fr., Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) in the one-mile run (5:26.54) and Mindy Harrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) in the weight throw (47-7 ¾). Sarah Thompson (So., Byron, Ill.) took third place in the 55-meter high hurdles (9.30), as did Joslyn Drew (So., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the triple jump (34-2 ¼). The Lady Reds play host to the “Tadd Metzger Invitational” on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation in Kenosha, Wis., beginning at 10:30 a.m.
