The Carthage College women's volleyball team (10-1, 1-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked fourth in the Sept. 15 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, travelled to Indianola, Iowa on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 18-19 to play in the Simpson College Tournament. On Friday, Sept. 18, Carthage defeated Bethel University (Minn., 4-4), 3-1, before sweeping Wartburg College (5-7), 3-0. Carthage's winning set scores over Bethel (Minn.) were 25-11, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-15, while its winning scores over Wartburg were 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23. On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Lady Reds swept Augsburg College (8-5), 3-0, with winning set scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-15. Carthage lost to Nebraska Wesleyan University (11-3), 3-1, in the championship match. The Prairie Wolves' winning set scores over the Lady Reds were 25-22, 25-16, 16-25 and 25-22. Carthage's Michelle Madeja (So., Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Lauren Dembkowski (So., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) were named to the all-tournament team. Carthage travels to Rock Island, Ill., on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to play CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 2-10, 0-1 CCIW) in a 7 p.m. match at the Carver Physical Education Center.
