Carthage Men's Soccer Drops Season-Opener, 7-0, at NCAA II Rollins on Sept. 1

The Carthage College men's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its 2009 season on Sept. 1 with a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division II Rollins College (2-0) the Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field in Winter Park, Fla.  The Tars opened their season on Friday with a 1-0 win over Embry-Riddle University.  In Tuesday's contest, Rollins opened up a 4-0 lead at halftime behind goals by Adam New at 7:18, Dennis Chin at 8:05 and 24:17 and J.D. Gruenwald at 32:38.  The Tars tacked on three more second-period goals, with Chin scoring at 50:30, Nick Sowers at 70:48 and at Jack Clifford at 85:27.  Carthage plays host to the “Battle on the Border” tournament on Friday-Saturday at Art Keller Field.  The Red Men take on Viterbo University on Friday at 5 p.m. and Clarke College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
