The Carthage College women's basketball team (6-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 31st in the Dec. 1 “D3hoops.com” poll, defeated No. 25 Calvin College (6-1), 58-47, on Friday, Dec. 4 at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis. 

The first half was a slow-moving affair with seven lead changes and four ties. Carthage led by three points at the break, 23-20. The second half was pretty much all Lady Reds. Carthage took an eight-point lead, 32-24, at 14:13. While Calvin got as close as three points, 32-29, at 12:03, the Lady Reds pulled away to take an 11-point edge, 49-38, at 1:37. Carthage went on to win by that 11-point margin, 58-37.
 
The Lady Reds shot 43 percent (22-51), including 54 percent in the second half (13-24), while Calvin shot just 33 percent (19-58). Carthage edged Calvin on the boards, 36-33, and both teams turned the ball over 22 times. Carthage's Diana Jacklin (So., Berwyn, Ill./Florida Gulf Coast University) scored a game-high 21 points on eight-of-14 field goals and five-of-six free throws, along with six rebounds. Jacklin was the only Carthage player in double figures. Brook VanEck topped the Knights with 12 points and five rebounds, while Carissa Verkaik had 10 points and five boards. Carthage travels to Chicago on Friday, Dec. 11 to play Robert Morris University (Ill., 9-4) in a 7 p.m. game at Loyola University's Joseph J. Gentile Center.
