The Carthage College women's basketball team (3-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) upended Aurora University (1-2), 85-42, on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Thornton Gymnasium in Aurora, Ill.
Carthage never trailed against Aurora. The Lady Reds opened up a 15-point lead in the first period, 22-7, at 8:36. The lead went to 20 points, 39-19, at 2:20 and to 23 points at the break, 48-25. Carthage went up by 31 points early in the second half, 57-26, at 15:43, and by 40, 71-31, at 10:06. The Lady Reds led by as much as 46 points, 83-37, at 1:29 and went on to win by 43, 85-42.
Carthage shot 57 percent (32-56), while Aurora shot just 34 percent (13-38). The Lady Reds out-rebounded the Spartans, 35-25, and Aurora turned the ball over 29 times to just 19 for Carthage. Four Lady Reds scored in double figures. Rosie Dorn (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Wilmette-Regina Dominican) scored a game-high 16 points on seven-of-11 field goals, including one three-pointer. Diana Jacklin (So., Berwyn, Ill./Florida Gulf Coast University) had 14 points on six-of-eight shooting, while Katie Klemke (Sr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Cory Bazany (So., Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central) chipped in 10 points each. Becky Gifford topped the Spartans with 10 points.
On Saturday, Nov. 28, the Lady Reds journey to Chicago to take on No. 14 the University of Chicago (4-0) in a 3 p.m. contest at the Gerald Ratner Athletic Center.
