Sara Meyer begins her eighth year as Carthage head coach in 2018 (60-60-9 - 7

years at Carthage / 74-66-11 - 8 years overall).
Meyer guided the 2013 Lady Reds to a 13-5-1 record, 5-2 and third place in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Carthage advanced to the title game of the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament in 2013 for the first time since 2007, and the team's turnaround from a 1-4-2 league finish in 2012 was the second best in CCIW women's soccer history (Carthage's 2004 team, coached by Steve Domin, set the largest program turn around with a record of 16-5 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW).
Meyer has coached 15 All-CCIW recipients, three NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region performers, one CCIW Newcomer of the Year and one CCIW Jack Swartz All-Academic selection throughout her Carthage tenure. The 2013 and 2015 Lady Reds teams registered the NSCAA Team Academic Award under Meyer's guidance.
Meyer, formerly Sara Johnson, was the head coach at Wartburg College in 2010 and guided the Knights to a 14-6-2 record, 7-1 in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.
She served as an assistant coach at Wartburg for three years from 2007 to 2009, where she helped guide the Knights to their first-ever Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, as well as an NCAA "sweet 16" appearance. At Wartburg, Meyer helped coach one National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American, six NSCAA all-region players, two IIAC "Players of the Year" and 15 all-conference players.
Prior to Wartburg, Meyer coached at Wheaton Academy High School in West Chicago, Ill, where she also taught English. A native of Glenview, Ill., she graduated from Wheaton College (Ill.) in 2005 with a bachelor’s in English after a three-year playing career for the Thunder.
Meyer began her playing career at NCAA Division I Eastern Illinois University before transferring to Wheaton (Ill.). Meyer was a captain on Wheaton’s 2004 team than went 25-1 and won a national championship. She earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region honors in 2003 and 2004, All-CCIW honors from 2002 to 2004 and was named CCIW “Women’s Soccer Player of the Year” in 2003. Meyer is still ranked third on the Thunder's all-time scoring list even though she only played three years.
Sara and her husband Andrew reside in Illinois with their son Luke and daughter Brooke.
