Tarkyia Mensah

Tarkyia Mensah was named head coach of the Carthage College women’s wrestling program in May 2025, bringing a strong track record of competitive achievement, academic excellence, and program-building leadership to the Firebirds.

Mensah arrives in Kenosha following three successful seasons as the head coach at Schreiner University. Under her guidance, the program saw rapid growth and consistent postseason success. Her teams produced 12 national qualifiers, two NCAA All-Americans, and 15 Scholar All-Americans during her tenure. Schreiner claimed back-to-back SLIAC championships in 2023-24 and 2024-25, with the 2023-24 team placing third at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Mensah was named Regional Coach of the Year in 2025 and was twice honored as part of the SLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Her 2024-25 team also earned the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award.

As a student-athlete, Mensah was a three-time WCWA All-American and a two-time University Nationals Champion at Wayland Baptist University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice and has also served as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. In 2024, she was selected as a U.S. State Department Ambassador for the Social Sports Exchange in Azerbaijan.

Mensah brings a passionate, student-centered approach to coaching and is committed to fostering both athletic and personal development within the Firebirds program.
