Ryan Kane was named the next athletic director at Carthage College during the 2022-23 academic year. Kane comes to Carthage after being the athletic director at Ripon College.Â
Ripon College named Kane head men's basketball coach in 2012 and added athletic director in 2019. Kane was the program's third men's basketball coach in 50 years and coached 10 seasons finishing with a 165-90 overall record, which includes a 125-55 record in conference games, placing him eighth all-time in conference career coaching wins. During Kane's tenure, the Red Hawks appeared in the four-team Midwest Conference (MWC) Tournament eight times, winning the MWC Tournament in 2017 and 2020 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in both years. During the 2021-22 season, Kane led Ripon to its first MWC regular season championship in 23 years, earning hosting rights for the MWC Tournament for the first time since 1999. Kane reached the 100-win mark faster than anyone in program history.
Kane has coached five MWC Players of the Year, a Central Region Rookie of the Year, three All-Americans, and 13 All-Conference selections. Kane's teams have set single-season school records for points, 3-pointers made, and free-throw percentage. As a department, Ripon won ten conference championships since 2022, 12 Coaches of the Year award winners since 2019 and a school record 195 academic all-conference recipients in 2022. In 2022, the men's programs won the Ralph Shively All Sports Award for the second time in the 50 year history of the award and first since 1999, while women had the highest finish in school history as well for the award. In addition, Kane spearheaded the $8.5 million dollar Ripon College Stadium project. Kane was instrumental in the strategic expansion of a 157,000 square foot fixture used on campus stadium that hosts their football and soccer programs.Â
Raised in Green Bay, Wis., Kane competed in basketball and golf while studying communications as an undergraduate at St. Norbert College. Then he earned a master's in sports administration from Valparaiso University.
To begin his coaching career, Kane spent nine years as an assistant at three other Division III schools in the region: Dominican (Ill.), Lawrence, and Loras.
In 2017, Kane received the school's Presidential Award for General Excellence, reserved for a single staff member each year. The award recognized both the service opportunities he developed for his players and his concerted effort to engage team alumni.Â
Kane and his wife Paige currently reside in Kenosha with their three daughters, Sadie (6) and twins Reagan and Mayla (4).
