Vaughn Tackmann

Vaughn Tackmann begins his second season as a Carthage College assistant track and field coach in 2020-21, after serving two seasons as a graduate assistant coach. During his time as a graduate assistant, he assisted in coaching three school records, and 56 All-CCIW performances which included three Conference Champions. Tackmann also assisted in coaching two national qualifying performances with the 4x400m men's relay team which earned All-American honors during the 2019 indoor season. Tackmann works with both the men’s and women’s teams.

The 2020 season saw Tackmann guide Tyrani White to claim USTFCCA All-Midwest Region honors, and qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Tackmann arrived at Carthage following a one-season stint at NAIA Morningside College, where he was the assistant track & field/cross country coach. Tackmann oversaw the sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers, as well as maintaining the strength and conditioning programs for the Mustangs highlighted by coaching athletes to two school records, 32 All-GPAC performances which included four individual conference champions. Perman Wilson '19 was crowned conference champion in the 55m dash in indoors and 100m dash, 200m dash, and 4x100m relay for outdoors. Tackmann also had seven national qualifying performances with the women's distance medley relay team which earned All-American honors during the 2017 indoor season. 

Tackmann spent the previous three seasons as an assistant track & field coach at his alma mater, Luther College. He coached the Norse sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers. During his time at Luther he assisted in coaching six school records, 29 All-IIAC Performances which included nine individual Conference Champions and three IIAC Women's Field Event MVPs. Leah Broderick '15 set the IIAC record for the Pentathlon (3505 pts) during the 2015 indoor season. Tackmann also served as the assistant advisor for Luther's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 

He holds a U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association Technical and Program Management certification and has also earned the Jumping Event Specialist certification through USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association)  

The Arlington, Minn., native graduated from Luther in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies.  He received his master’s degree in education from Carthage in 2019.
