Amy Gillmore begins her 29th year as Carthage's head softball coach in 2025-26, and owns a 610-440-1 record over 27 seasons. She is a four-time CCIW Coach of the Year (1998, 2010, 2012, and 2016), as well as the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.
Carthage has produced 27 NFCA all-region players, three NFCA All-Americans, 86 All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honorees, two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, and six CCIW/Jack Swartz All-Academic selections throughout Gillmore's tenure. Additionally, Gillmore has coached five CCIW Softball Pitchers of the Year and four CCIW Players of the Year.
Gillmore has led the program to four CCIW regular season championships (1998, 2010, 2012, and 2013), and five NCAA Division III Softball Championship appearances (1998, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2019). Carthage survived five games in the 2012 and 2013 NCAA regional brackets. The 2012 campaign ended with a 2-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan while the 2013 season concluded with a 3-2 loss to North Central (Ill.). The 2019 team walked through the Wisconsin-Whitewater NCAA Regional with three-straight wins, which punched their ticket to their first NCAA Division III Super Regional at Illinois Wesleyan University.
A standout shortstop for Carthage from 1992 to 1994, Gillmore was a three-time All-CCIW selection. After graduating from Carthage in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science and special education, she served as head softball coach, assistant girls basketball coach and girl’s athletic director at Kenosha St. Joseph High School. In softball, Gillmore compiled a 43-16 record over three seasons with three “final four” appearances in the Wisconsin Independent School Athletic Association softball championship.
